WI: Danzig as a German city, not a free city

"Danzig war und ist eine deutsche Stadt."
"Danzig was and is a German city."
-- Adolf Hitler's speech to the Reichstag, 1 September 1939

What if Danzig remained as a part of East Prussia after WW1? What if the Polish Corridor was not the sovereign territory of Poland, but rather was a League of Nations-mandated international territory? This would strip Hitler of his casus belli against Poland.

Would Hitler find another excuse to wage war on Poland? What would it be?

If Danzig remained part of Germany it could butterfly Nazi Germany entirely just from random knock-on effects—you know, Hitler gets shot during the Beer Hall Putsch or something like that.

Also I think Danzig was a major grief of the German people. An obvious German city, filled with Germans, not part of Germany, but being ruled by the Polish. The other parts Germany lost at least were (mostly) Polish. It could just be enough to butterfly away just enough support for the Nazi party that they never become the major party they were in OTL pre-war German politics. For example, it might just remain strong enough that the other righ wing parties manage to control them in government, like the plan was OTL, instead of the nazi party completely taking over.

That’s an interesting alternate scenario that doesn’t seem to come up often, a Weimar Germany that goes right-wing without going full Nazi. You either see a liberal democratic Weimar or a surviving Nazi state in AH.

I suspect a right-wing Germany would still do a lot of what Nazi Germany did (rearm, seize the Rhineland, push for annexing the Sudetenland and Austria) but maybe not end up going to full war.

Danzig was 'rule' by itself under the ... 'souvereignity' of the LoN.

The Poles had 'just' some special rights (rights to pass and exteritorriatilty of its - the poles - military installation at the harbour - 'westerplatte').
Oh, and ofc there were some ... problem about what might be how delivered to the city by land.

At the second highlightened part :
No, ... it wouldn't have such an effect.
  1. For the rise of the Nazis up to end of 1932, beginning 1933 Danziog played in every phase only a minor, only a few times highlightened topic - much different to the propaganda of the other conservatives, namely the DNVP and the civil-servants-'corps', esp wihtin the foreign office. ITTL they would loose a rather important topic of their propaganda.
  2. Hitler was the guy of 'all or nothing'. He would have never accepted the role planned for him by the conservatives hope-dreamers to somehow control Hitler. ... too mad a mind to be controlled.
(This ofc only with the one POD stated within the OP. Additional changes - esp. that somehow take hitler out of the game well thinkable. Nevertheless Danzig IMHO would play no role in it.)
