Wi: Daniel Webster "Seventh of March" speech went differently

Let’s say Daniel Webster decides he wants to keep his senate seat and does the politically convenient thing. In his "Seventh of March" speech Webster comes to us as a “Massachusetts man and a Northern man”. He does not cut a deal with the southern senators and soon after the compromise of 1850 falls apart. What are the consequences?

The ACW is likely to break out in 1850.

That wouldn't go well for the North, the closer you get to 1860 the bigger the North's advantages in population, industry, and infrastructure get compared to the South. With Zachary Taylor as POTUS secession won't be taken lying down but it's going to be a much rougher battle for the Union than it was OTL.

However as one thing to consider: without an anti-slavery president in the White House would as many Southern states consider secession? If the Upper South sits out the Civil War and Virginia stays loyal to the Union then it might end quicker than OTL. It all depends on how things shake out.

True enough, if the same states leave then the South has a decent chance at winning, although it will still be battered if it wins as even in 1850 the North had considerably more industry and population. If Virginia stays loyal than that is a problem for the South.

Two things that helps the North are the lack of a Republican Party and no Bleeding Kansas. No overtly anti-slavery party in Congress or the White House means it is less likely for the secessionists to pick up as much support since it would be harder for them to argue the federal government is coming to take their slaves away. No Bleeding Kansas also means tensions will be lower so the secessionists will have less appeal than they did OTL.
