WI: CSA Becomes A Junta

What if during the American Civil War, the generals which were in charge of the Confederate Army were not fans of those chosen to be the first cabinet of the Southern states and launched a cou against Jefferson Davis to establish a junta?

The CSA most likely implodes. The Confederate government faced a constant uphill struggle to get the various states to stick together, and if it looks like the government has genuinely been overthrown, and some kind of proto-military junta implemented, you'd probably see some states secede and try to either continue to wage war on their own, or seek a separate peace with the Union.

Either way, the war ends a hell of a lot faster, and probably nips the Lost Cause (or, at least, the OTL version) in the bud. You might actually, irony of ironies, see the *Lost Cause venerate Jefferson Davis instead of Robert E. Lee (if he's a participant in the coup, though that seems unlikely).
