WI Crusaders fathered boys.

If there were more boys than girls surviving then Outremer may have been able to orientalise and fit in with the Byzantines, Armenians and Muslims. Instead it was always having to import husbands from the west for the heiresses, and these regurlarly ruined the status quo with their ideas on treating with the infidel etc.

Runcimans History of the Crusades, he throws up a quite a few of these sort of ideas, very readable.

It would be interesting to see a Crusader State continue to thrive up through the modern era. Of course it wouldn't be a crusader state at this point, and probably would have been forced to become something very multicultural in it's politics.

Nonetheless, had their been more sons and effective heirs, then you likely would have seen a far more sustainable government in place.

Especially start treating its Muslim inhabitants kindly.

It was newcomers who caused the problems, they thought that dealing with Muslims and Heretic Christians was treasonous without a thought to the survivial of their outpost amid the Byzantines and Islamic powers and that the locals were non Latin Christinasd or various stripe and Muslim. Nobles born in Outrmer understood their precarious situation better.
