In 451, the Council of Chalcedon upheld the Tome of Leo, Bishop of Rome leading to the split between the Oriental Orthodox Church and the Eastern Orthodox/Roman Catholic. The theological dispute is mind bending complex and at one point the difference was whether it should read "in two natures" or "from"
So what happens if instead the Council denounces Leo publicly and fully- declaring his writing heretical, Leo an heretic and deposing him for his blasphemy. Obviously, this puts a damper on claims of Papal supremacy and infallibility It also keeps the Church united and decentalized
Politically though, what happens in the West with the end of the Church/State struggle? Is there a Protestant reformation?
