WI: Conway Cabal succeeds. Now what?

Gates would run away after the first battle and would be replaced by Washington again.

Note that the "Cabal" ended in mid-1778, exactly when Howe/Clinton were giving up the Philadelphia Campaign, effectively ending the war in the north.

Honestly, I'm not sure how much difference replacing Washington in 1778 would make.

The only significant campaign left was the southern campaign which was fought by subordinates until the Siege of Yorktown.

Maybe "Granny" Gates wouldn't have the balls to march south with the French to besiege Cornwallis.

Washington might not become president. Maybe Franklin or Adams?

What I'm really trying to do is think of a possible POD that has the South stay in the British camp after the war, and have the remaining northern colonies become a more federalized nation.
