WI Constantine I didnt disbanded the Praetorian Guard?

In 312 AD following his victory in Milvian Bridge Constantine I now sole Emperor of the West he ordered the disband of the Praetorian Guard (because they had fought against him under Maxentius) and demolished the Castra Praetoria...
WI Constantine didnt disband the Praetorian Guard? or follow the example of Septimius Severus and form a new Praetorian Guard with troops from his own Legions loyal to him?
By having a Praetorian Guard devoted to him h could easily attacked and crushed Licinius in the East without worrying for an invasion in Italian soil...
Any thoughts?

Not much difference by that point, I should think. Though they were technically still in existence, the Praetorians were of little consequence by the time of Constantine. Diocletian had pretty much reduced them to a small garrison of little consequence. They didn't even have direct access to the Emperor: they remained headquartered in Rome, while Diocletian and his successors generally ruled from elsewhere in the Empire.

They failed to have a decisive impact on the Constantine/Maxentius fight, and after that they would have had a difficult time having any serious effect on imperial politics. Even Constantine kept them around in name only, a la Severus, I imagine he would've made sure they weren't going to be throwing their weight around anytime soon.

He might have used the British Legions who proclaimed him Emperor as his new Praetorian Guard and punish the former Praetorians by sending them to Britain or Africa... Since Constantine needed experienced troops to fight Licinius in the East this new Praetorian Guard would be very useful...
