Pretty much, by circa 1200 CE Byzantine political society is pretty bad. In fact, it's quite likely that Andronikos I Komnenos was the last best chance to restore the old order, but then he did have the Komnenoi crazy streak.

The Andronikos Komnenos the Empire needed was Emperor Manuel’s second oldest brother but he got sick and died unfortunately.

I guess it’s possible that Komnenoi magic could strike Konstantinos Angelos Doukas (he was Alexios Komnenos’ great grandson after all) if he managed to become Emperor. But I agree that he would have an upmountain battle.
