The Battle of Mbwila, which happened in october 1665 and pitted the portuguese colonists of Angola against the christianized Kingdom of Congo, is often considered the main turning point for the decline of the Modern Age congo as a centralized entity, due to the capture and enslavement of most of the kingdom's nobility by the portuguese after the battle led to a portuguese victory. The congolese kingdom suffered multiple civil wars for the remainder of the 17th century due to this, up until they were vassalized by the portuguese.
But what if the native congolese had won the battle?
Could such a victory turn back the collapse of the Kingdom of Congo and give it a window of opportunity to expand and grow?
