WI Confederate Race War

I can remember reading somewhere before that there was a view if Abolition was to occur throughout that a race war would occur. What would be some likely effects? I for one think that the Klan would gain much greater support throughout the re-united house.

The only way that this would seen as a Race War is that violence must be instigated by non-whites in a way we would see as terrorism today. Anyway try to keep this civil everyone and any ideas would be interesting to hear.

With things being as OTL in the Reconstruction Period? Simply not possible. The old Slavocracy had pretty much been returned to power with all the threat to free blacks that implies. The North was remarkably apathetic about the fate of the freedmen as it was, and once the threat of a second Southern secession was dead, promptly abandoned the freedmen to the tender mercies of the Klan.

With the level of general apathy of OTL, and the still ever present old timey racism that prevailed amongst most of WASP society back in the day the thought of blacks attacking whites in an organized fashion similar to the Klan would be a deadly blow to progress of the freedmen.

Sure it might make Reconstruction last longer with a better emphasis on race relations, but it could just as easily end up with a broad agreement that the freedmen aren't ready to rule themselves and a support for the draconian measures established the South OTL.

Either way, it's definitely not the best bet for the freedmen of the South.
