WI: Colonel Sanders as Wallace's running-mate

From Time Magazine, October 1968...

For months, George Wallace had been casting about for a running mate, often in pretty strange waters. He considered "Colonel" Harland Sanders, the fried-chicken king ("It's finger-lickin' good").

The Colonel was an iconic figure by the time I became conscious of the world around me, mid-70s, so I'm assuming he was already world-famous by 1968.

So, let's say Wallace asks, and Sanders accepts. Does the Kentucky Fried Chicken chain go berzerk, and dump him as their spokesman? Or are social mores at the time still such that the company can bank on the dining public not being TOO offended by their beloved chicken maestro stumping with Mr. Segregation Forever?

At the very least, I'm guessing it would have a negative impact on the chain's global expansion. Rhodesia and South Africa might be exceptions, though.

At least Sanders has explain much why did he accepted offer by segregationist candidate. This might has some bad impact for KFC.
