WI: Colin Salmon as 007

Before the Idris Elba craze is cool, we have Colin Salmon right after Brosnan's departure.

Given Salmon's smilar circumstances with Elba, with a glaring difference that Salmon already appeared on Tomorrow Never Dies-forwards.

Now, what will happen, if the world witnesses Salmon as Bond? Will the face of the franchise and pop culture will be changed? Will he became the worst? Or the best? or just something in line with Dalton? Or a living joke like Moore's last era?

Keep in mind that some people had an immediate adverse reaction to the announcement of Daniel Craig's casting because his hair was the wrong colour.

Keep in mind that Craig is not supported by the previous Bonds.

No-one cares what they think, and as far as I know this isn't even true - all bar Lazenby have always said either nice things about their successors or nothing at all.

The point is that people reacted hugely negatively to Craig, including setting up the popular 'craignotbond.com', and the hostility vanished as soon as Casino Royale was released.

Except, of course, on the excellent but highly opinionated alternative007. It's a great site with lots of really interesting articles, but the admins and writers loathe Craig with a passion for being short, Blonde and grumpy. Still, their articles about earlier Bond films are fascinating reads, in particular their revisit of Die Another Day (they conclude it's actually okay, I disagree, but their reasoning is interesting to read).

I've read that one, but not for a while. I'll need to look through it again, but I recall the tone being, "It's bad, but is it that bad compared to Daniel Craig?" as though it's premised on accepting the Craig movies as bad films, then using that as the metric for judging the other entries in the series. Probably not a fair assessment on my part, but as I say, haven't read it in a while.

Well, for starters it means they probably can't do the hard-reboot thing with Bond as a new 00 agent, as Colin Salmon is about five years older than Daniel Craig. (Actually, in 2006 Colin Salmon would be 43 years old, which is the same age that Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan both debuted as Bond.)
