WI: Colapse of the Ottoman Empire by 1820-1840

By the start of the XIX Century the Ottoman Empire was in dire straits. The Greeks were in open revolt and, although outnumbered and with poor equipment, they managed to outdo the Ottoman troops in the Hellenic heartland. The Janissaries, not anymore the elite fighters of before, were in confrontation with the Sultan. Egypt was in the hands of Ibrahim Pasha and he would proceed to expand his personal Empire at the cost of the Ottomans. It seemed that the sun was setting in the Ottoman Empire, just like it did in the Mughal and Safavid.

And yet, the Sick Man of Europe lingered on. The Greeks failed to capitalize the moment due to their internal conflicts and poor leadership. The Janissaries were disbanded by the Sultan. And in 1840 the Oriental Crisis would end in an Ottoman victory, with Syria and Crete regained. Mahmud II would reform the Empire and some say that, if it wasn’t for the 1st World War, the Ottoman Empire would’ve regained its old glory.

But what if history played differently? Is it be possible that the factors mentioned above (Greek and other patriot revolts, the Janissary problem, Ibrahim Pasha) could’ve ended in the colapse of the Ottoman Empire or at least its neutering? If yes, how would the European powers try to savage this situation and what would be the probable new order in the Balkans-Middle East?

I'd say it's possible. The European powers would eagerly watch as the Ottomans implode, waiting to gobble up the choicest parts of it's empire. Russia could actively support the Greeks in order to gain control of the straits. Egypt could also capitalise on the Ottomans downfall by expanding. The European powers would leave nothing more than a Turkish rump state, possibly ruled by the Sultan unless an earlier republican movement takes hold and a revolution occurs.
