WI: CNN exists in the 1960s

And I think sports coverage was a significant driver of British newspapers as early as (?) 1820. And even today, I think sports coverage is often among the best of American journalism.

I think health coverage also has potential, as long as journalists avoid the twin dangers of alarmism and being timid about offending advertisers and potential advertisers.

From the book Legacy Of Ashes: The History Of The CIA by Tim Weiner...

The Berlin Wall had stood for nearly thirty years, the greatest symbol of the cold war. When it began to crack one night in November 1989, the chief of the Soviet division of the clandestine service, Milt Bearden, sat speechless at headquarters, staring at CNN. The upstart network had become a huge problem for the agency. In a crisis, it provided what passed for real-time intelligence. How could the CIA top that?
