WI: Charles XII not Killed?

What if Charles XII of Sweden, probably one of the greater of Swedish Kings, wasn't killed at Fredriksten? By the time of his death most of his Empire, save for Sweden itself, was under foreign rule. Do you think Charles would have fought on or would he have realized the inevitable and sued for peace? If he did sue for peace do you think he would have used it just as a way to buy time to rebuild his forces?

It is pretty arguable was Carl XII very great king. But if he wouldn't had killed like in OTL it probably would had happened somewhere else later. He was too stubborn suing peace. He probably would try fight to end.

If he survived, it’s very likely he wouldn’t nearly be nearly as mythologized, beceause he would likely be seen as the king that lost Sweden’s position as a Great Power (arguably, rightfully so).

The forces he would rebuild just wouldn’t be nearly as good. A good amount of Carolean prowess came from being veterans of many wars. Now that they’re all gone, the new army would be built off of nothing but greenhorns. There’s only so much training can do, the battlefield is the ultimate training ground of elite units.

Also, just about any other war against Russia after 1718 would likely lead to Russia kicking Sweden’s ass again.

The Jacobites may have succeeded as Charles was a key supporter and planning an invasion when he died. I think he would’ve ruled with an iron fist and would be loved by his people.
