WI: Charles, Prince of Viana survives

In my Iberian thoughs I came out with this guy, so my question is: What if he did die (either not getting tuberculosis or being poisoned by his stepmother) and marries Isabella of Castille?

To make things interesting, Juana Henriquez and Ferdinand can't be conveniently killed off ;).

EDIT: Ops, wrong board, should be on Before 1900 :(

I think this makes Mary of Burgundy more likely to marry Ferdinand of Aragon.

Why? Assuming the butterflies don't murder Max he still in the best position to protect her lands anyways.

Well, there you have a single king of Aragon and Navarre, for starters.

For wanting to marry Isabella of Castille and not Catarina of Portugal he got jailed by his father...

Well, this precisely.

It's more likely that Charles escapes prison, gets himself crowned King of Navarre, goes off to marry Isabella, and like his brother IOTL, live with her in Castile for a bit, which makes him avoid being poisoned by his stepmother.

Since his father hates his guts in OTL, we can assume that once John II dies, he decides to exclude Charles from the inheritance, bequeathing Aragon to Ferdinand instead. Charles, feeling slighted, will declare war on his brother. Thus, we get the War of Aragonese Succession.

Charles had already "reconciliated" with his father in 1461, which is a soft term for "was released under pressure" because the Catalans rose in rebellion after his imprisoment.

But Charles has already rebelled 3 times, and John had a lot of enemies in Navarre anyways, so a 4th rebellion isn't unlikely. :p

Isabella won't let him, especially because it means La Beltraneja would eventually succeed her as queen.

If Charles, Prince of Viana marries Catherine of Portugal, he has all reasons for his ATL son to marry Joanna "la Beltraneja" in order to ally with Henry IV against his detractors.
