During 800 and the years preceding it Pope Leo III had gained a reputation for adultery and sexual sins. Charles went to Rome that year to preside over the Pope's trial. Luckly for Leo was able to escape execution either by taking an oath purging himself of his sins or by the discover of some ancient statue that a Pope could only be tried by god. What if Charles was a little less merciful and had Leo III executed?
