WI Charles Dies, Diana Lives

As it says on the tin, wi Prince Charles dies instead of Diana due to whatever chain of events. POD preferably after the birth of Prince Harry at the very least. Bonus points to anyone who can ensure strong relations between the Princess and Her Majesty. B.P. also to anyone who can craft a bit of a narrative with things.

The Queen will live til she's 100 and Charles will be as old as balls when he's King, in this scenario at least we can get a young King, shame he's bald.

At least William probably would be more popular than Charles is. And if William still marries Catherine Middleton, UK would get more stylish queen than Camilla would be.

I don't think the Queen and Diana will have a strong relationship, but it'll be a "We still can't stand each other but we'll be civil because the future King is our son and grandson" relationship.

She'll probably double down on her humanitarian and philanthropic endeavours, spending as much time as possible as far from Buckingham Palace as possible, taking Harry and William with her whenever possible. Just an idea based on Rule of Cool and not much else, but she could tour the countries of the Commonwealth in the same way that medieval monarchs toured their countries, becoming a respected and serious philanthropist - much more so than in OTL - in the process.

20 years down the road, she might even become Nobel Peace Prize material, something that's not unlikely since they gave it to Obama of all people, while his country was involved in several wars.

Harry and William will be unrecognizable as people if Diana lives, and autonomist and secessionist sentiment in the UK might be affected as well - lessened or strengthened, it all depends on the butterflies caused by Diana's survival.

I think Diana’s influence over Prince William will actually decrease if Charles died. William is being groomed to be the next King of England. I think he will spending most of his free time with his grandparents learning “the family business”. Just like OTL William will eventually attend Sandhurst and start a career in the military.
Prince Harry might not become the wild child he was in his college days. He might settle down earlier and never meet Meghan Markle or Diana might encourage her younger son to hold out and marry for true love.
Basically until the brothers start college I think Diana will be kept on a short leash by the Queen. She will play the widowed good mother. She can do her charity stuff but I doubt there will be any boyfriends.
Once Diana’s sons are adults though, she will be pushed into the background like Sarah Ferguson.

The thing that people forget is on the eve of her death was that Diana was losing her popularity and has she ages that will increase as she become more out of touch and say something crass. The tabloids will look for someone younger ,more interesting, become yesterday story. By dying young in the manner it sealed her repuation , going out with Dodi wasn't a popular move but all is forgiven in death.

Yes but nothing like being a widow especially still attractive especially Camila helps your ratings. Especially if you're willing to give up your entire personal life for the Commonwealth in the royalty stostoi carrying on.

Certainly given the way Charles's life had gone (not being able to marry for true love, the behind the scenes stuff with Dianna etc). If he had been in that situation I think there would be a lot more sympathy towards him.

Like people above said, Dianna's death gave her, almost a pass for her behaviour, something I think she won't get in this timeline, especially if it comes out that her relationships took Charles to the brink. I don't see her acting like Fergie though since, lets face it, Dianna isn't a chav (Fergie probably is a bit). I think she'll certainly be involved a lot with charities and the sort. I could see her clashing a lot with the queen. I genuinly think she would want to be invovled in her children's lives as much as possible whilst the Queen will want to raise them (in particular, william) the royal way to ensure the line of succession is adhered to and in particular, so William becomes a good king.

I can see Diana being allowed to take one boy or the other out of the country but never both at the same time.

I could have seen her try though, leading to a public spat in the royal family. She doesn't strike me as the type to have bowed down to the queens demands either.
