WI: Chalcedon goes the other way

The Council of Chalcedon, from my understanding, was where the Eastern churches split from the Western church over the nature of Christ. I was wondering, what if the monophysites or nestorians won, and how would that make Hitler win WW2:p?

What Hitler?

This PoD would prevent him from sending the afrika korps to africa and he would win in Stalingrad

The Council of Chalcedon is where the Oriental Churches (Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Armenia, Assyria and India plus someone I'm forgetting) split from the Imperial Churches

The controversy is over the Formula of Leo- Pope Leo's explanation of the nature of Christ. The Oriental Churches accused Leo of falling into Nestorianism. He comes close because Nestor was shocked when he wasn't granted communion. The Imperial Church thought the Orientals were slipping into Monophysitim which they reject

The Split between East and West comes about in the eleventh century over the Pope's effort to assert authority in the East

Since your POD totally changes Western civilization from the 5th century, its a bit hard to predict its effect on WWII

You would have the Christian Church remain united, the Papacy checked in its infancy, the Byzantine Empire united when faced with Islam, no Church state struggle in the West to name but few

So, it would basically be a reverse, with the miaphysite's/dyophisites being in power, and the monophysite's being less important in the grand scheme of things.

There are no monophysites. The dispute is highly technical about the nature of Christ. Everyone agreed that Christ was God and Christ was man and that these two natures were separate and not mingled. He was fully human and fully divine but not a hybrid

the debate centered on how to say it without falling into the trap of either Nestorianism (that Christ was two beings) or monophysitism (that Christ was somehow a hybrid God/Man)

The Oriental Churches accused Leo of falling into Nestorianism and Leo accused the Orientals of falling into monophysitism. Both denied the charges
Another way to look at it is Cyril wrote the denunciation of Nestor. The Oriental Churches accused Leo of contradicting Cyril while the Orthodox/Catholics insist that Leo can only be understood through Cyril

The crucial dispute is that Leo uses the phrase "in two natures" while the Patriarch of Alexandra would only accept "from two natures'

That's the best I can do and I've had bishops spend hours explaining it to me

If that didn't happen, a time machine will eventually be built by Leonardo da Vinci and he will use it to destroy your existance, thus preventing you from creating this thread and thus, I shall create it, not you!

Nestorians win -> united Byzantium -> Arab failure at Yarmouk -> Christian North Africa -> Less Mediterranean piracy -> Stronger Lombard kingdom -> Charlemagne can't invade it -> No HRE -> Frankish Empire splits in two instead of three on Charley's death, *Germany and *France -> *Germany is bigger than OTL -> When Hitler invades Poland on September 1st, 1939 Germany is larger and stronger

I've got a nice butterfly shredder out back

This is ridiculous

Poland would be stronger as they'd have a Black Sea port so as to better send pilgrims to the Holy Lands and, happily, receive reinforcement from their allies in the Levant.

Ah, but Germany would have planned for this and conquered all of Scandinavia centuries before hand, precisely in preparation for World War II!

Ah, but what did the continent-spanning colossus of Vinland have to say about the ridiculously circuitous plans of the Nazis?

There might be a world war (in fact I think human nature makes it a 75% chance post industrialization) but... with your POD whose Hitler?

Hitler, obviously! There being a Hitler is one of the few constants in a multiverse full of infinite possibilities. The only question is what your timeline's Hitler will be doing.

Not really on-topic, but Emperor Marcian should have held a regular trial for Dioscorus of Alexandria, found him guilty of murder for his actions in the Robber Council (where he incited a mob to attack the archbishop of Constantinople, who died shortly afterwards from his wounds), and punish him according to the law. Instead he chose to have the priests judge Dioscorus on mostly theological grounds in Chalcedon.
