WI: CCXCIV Olympic Games in 1897?

Why were Athens Olympic Games held in 1896? It was wrong year of the 4 year cycle. The time since the previous Games back in 393, 1503 years, did not divide by 4.
So: what if the Olympics wait till the appropriate year, 1897, and resume the numbering from where the count was left back in 393?

Because they are the NEW Olympic games. The sports are different, the medals are different, the history is different.

The only similarity is in the name and the 4 year cycle. So, doing it on a 'divisible by 4' year makes a lot of sense.

Especially, as pointed up, with 1900 coming up.
