WI: Catholic Sweden

Sweden was the first country to become Protestant. What if it remained Catholic? How might this affect the Protestant revolution, and European politics?

Easier for the Polish King to maintain control during the late 16th century personal union. If that develops into something more, like a Polish-Lithuanian-Swedish Commonwealth, you'd get massive changes. Perhaps to the point of Commonwealth colonies in the New World.

Without Protestant Sweden intervening in the 30 Years War, you could see a Catholic victory. The defeat of Protestantism in continental Europe.

Protestant mass emigration to the 'New World' North American colonies?

I doubt that catholic Sweden would be that acceptive England becomes protestant, Swedish Protestants going to English colonies or founding colonies under English suzerainty.

Considering the defeat of protestantism in central Europe, without Sweden I'd bet on an earlier entry of France into any imperial religious war saving protestantism simply to weaken the empire.
