WI: Catherine of Aragon dies in 1518 and Henry VIII still marries Anne Boleyn

I can definitely see Beatrice trying to convince Henry to marry Mary to either Luis or Duarte of Portugal. Though it likely depends on whether or not Henry's even willing to marry his daughters off.

He must have a grandson of two as heir before he dies!

I wonder if he'd try the same stunt as Henry I did then? He was hoping that by remarrying Matilda/Maud she'd have a son (which she did) and that he (Henry I) would live long enough that he could pass the kingship directly to his of-age grandson, rather than it having to go through Maud.

So, assuming OTL dates. Mary can marry around 1529/30. If she has a son in say, 1531/32/33, there's enough time for Hal to start teaching the boy to rule (Beatriz died in 1538, so Henry WILL remarry in the hopes of getting a son, but most historians think he was shooting blanks by 1540 so its a small window). If Prince Edward is born in 1531, he's 16 when Henry dies (2 years away from his majority), been trained since he was about 5-7yo to be king (all of Beatriz's kids after 1529 didn't live to adulthood, and none of the boys made it past a month). Could be fun and games all around

Males could marry at 14 and own property to support their wife, so at 16 Infante Edward (princesses cannot pass along that title, but Daddy Infante Luis can), can rule - but I'm not sure Mary's husband will go along with bypassing her, nor will anyone (parliament) else if Beja presents well, doesn't interfere with English politics and has a level head. I think Mary will still be Queen: look her mother and grandmother were. But, at 16, he would need an strong advisory council (mom & dad?)

Wouldn't it be a bit too early by then? I imagine that by 1529/30 Henry's still going to be holding out hope for a son from Beatrice so he might not be ready to consider a marriage for Mary for another few years. Maybe by 1534-36?

Beatrice is going to want to wed Mary abroad to show she's as politically important to her husband as Katherine of Aragon. Ya'll be forgettin' that.

And I mean she's going to want to wed Mary abroad to prove to everyone they didn't make a mistake in sending her to England - from her husband's viewpoint as well. (Especially if she's only had girls by then.)

And since 'the next' pregnancy of Beatrice will bring him a son, Henry might even allow it! (As Beatrix, Beatrice's fourth daughter comes along!!!!)

Haha would be hysterical if Mary was able to get married while Henry and Beatrice goes "omg, this is gonna be the much longed for Prince of Wales". And then Mary goes and pops out a son the year afterwards.
