WI: Capetian or Bourbon Ukraine

Is it possible for Ukraine to be ruled by Capetians or just at least by the Bourbons or another branch of the Capetian family since the Bourbons and the other Capets are one of the known descendants of the Rurikids specifically descendants of Anne of Kiev and what POD it could happen.

Rus does not work that way if you're talking about the middle ages. If it's taking place later...well, you'd have to provide an outline first as to when you want to do it. But in the middle ages...

You'd need the entire Rurikid clan to die out, AND have the city assemblies and the nobles agree to Capetians taking their place. There's the incipient concerns about Roman vs. Byzantine Christianity to think about as well.

Finally, military institutions of Rus were on a personal loyalty basis by professional soldiers rather than territorially-defined feudal holdings. Whoever the Capet was, would he even have the prequisite personal army to be be able to get approved as the ruler?

Anyway, that's my two cents, but feel free to ask if you really do want to develop the scenario.

You realize that the rulers of about half of eastern/central Europe were much closer "descendants of Rurikidis" than Capetians? That was only a single marriage while marriage pacts with neighbors were much more common.

So many other options are available that I doubt it would happen, you could probably get an Angevin if you tried and used their Hungarian branch as the jumping off point.

Sometime in the 1600s, with the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth rotting badly enough, a Cossack state rebels and tries to secure French support by electing a prince of the Bourbon house as Hetman.

Of course even that is chancy due to the Catholic thing (one of the things the Cossacks disliked the Poles over), but unless some adventurer swings in as the Mongols are coming apart and goes native the dynastic links that got Hungary and Naples under Capetian rule just are not there.
