The first 3 series of the new Doctor Who were produced with the participation of the CBC. As far as I know, this only extended to putting some money in and not any actual involvement into the production of the show.

But what if, for wheter reasons, the CBC put up a bit more money but with some strings attached ? The government has an habit of wanting "canadian content" so this could mean some canadian characters or having a set numbers of episodes in each series taking place in canada (I seem to recall highlander:the series which was a co-production doing just that back in the 90s).

In term of characters, having a a canadian officer in charge of UNIT would make the organisation a bit more multinational (it IS part of the UN after all) and at the other end of the spectrum, an actor with some fame on both side of the ocean could have been chosen for The Doctor (christopher plummer comes to mind though the new series seem to go for younger doctors).

Any thoughts ?
