WI Canadian confederation fails

What would be the effects of the 1867 Canadian confederation just not working and falling apart? Suppose the anti-confederation forces succeed in pulling some provinces (other than Newfoundland) from the confederation?

American British Columbia woo.

Are you sure? If the 67' Confederation is what fails, Canada (Upper and Lower) is still a thing and exists as economy to hook into, and the region is well understood to be a British Crown Colony with its own responsible government. Without Confederation being an option, I imagine its supporters will still be favoring closer ties to the British government and their Canadian cousions, at least commerically even if there's no administration merger, and I have severe doubts the US is going to be want to sour her relations with the British by pressing the issue.

The much bigger impact is liable to be on the Maritimes, who are the ones actually being excluded from joining with their bigger neighbor.

1867 was pretty well a done deal before the conference even took place. The Quebec conference in 1864 pretty much sealed the deal and 1867 was just the period at the end of the sentence. If it does fail, we probably wind up with multiple "Newfoundland" scenarios where most of the colonies Confederate in dribs and drabs throughout the 1870s-1880s.
