WI: Canada gets the French divison of Germany after WWII

Well, the British and Americans each had a Berlin Brigade.

The Canadians in West Germany had 4th Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group.

So...the Canadians would probably have less troops in Berlin right off the bat than the British or Americans. Maybe a battalion in Berlin and the 4CMBG in West Germany.

I think the more logical thing would be to split what we know of as the French Zone in half with half to the Canadians and half to the French in the immediate post-war period.
Personally, I think it'd make sense: yeah, the French are right there, but in 1945, who's got an Army and a Corps in Europe? The Canadians. They can roll into the Canadian Zone in 1945 with First Canadian Army and II Canadian Corps relatively quickly.
Now...1946 is going to be a completely different story, but in the immediate aftermath, Canada looks like the one to stick with.

I think it would end up a joint commonwealth zone. Canadians occupying Berlin though, that's going to change modern America's perception instead of it being 'oh yeah and Canada had some troops there as well.'

A Canadian Zone of occupation--or a Commonwealth one, makes sense to me. Far more than a French Zone.
Come to think of it, a Canadian occupation zone of Collaborationist France makes even more sense.

And the French.

In 1945, the French already had more soldiers under arms than the Canadians. They were all equipped with American arms, but then, which army on the Western front was not?

If the Canadians get an occupation zone, which they've 'earned' more than the French I'd say, they'll have to keep more troops in Germany after WWI and into the Cold War. I'm not sure if that's a positive thing for Canada to be honest.
