WI: canada became independent & the 13 colonies stayed British

ok i know population wise it would be hard but still like the title says what if theat happened? what all would change today

That's... just impossible. The only way I could fathom is to have a POD in the Seven Years' War and keep Canada French, having it break off from France, while the 13 colonies become British dominions. But that'd be Quebec not Canada.

I think there's confusion here about what is defined by "Quebec" and "Canada". For a long time they meant the same thing: the Province of Quebec was divided into Upper and Lower Canada, collectively known as "the Canadas". Places like Nova Scotia wouldn't be covered by the name until much later.

Even after British takeover, Quebec could certainly declare independence as "Canada". If you have more lenient policies to the thirteen colonies, leading to no rebellion, there would then be no reason for an accomodating Quebec Act. That could then lead to a Republic of Canada revolting, and then Westminster not wanting the thirteen colonies to join them, so continuing lenient policies there.
