WI: Bugsy Siegel kills Goering, Goebbels?

I'm not entirely sure there's any truth to this, but in case you're unfamiliar...

There is a story that while Bugsy Siegel was in Italy he was at a party which was also attended by Goering and Goebbels. All the sources I could find mentioned he disliked the men (and not just for political reasons) and decided either to kill them or have them killed. It's not far out to assume the party took place, and knowing Bugsy, his plan to kill them is worth entertaining a little bit.

So...

What if Bugsy had killed Goering and/or Goebbels or had had them killed?

What year was this?

From what I've read on the subject, around 1939. Some Italian villa, before the war broke out. It's only because of his Italian mistress' pleading that he didn't go through with whacking the two Nazis.

If he had done it, and not got caught at all (which, this being Bugsy Siegel, is likely the case), it'd have some big implications. The political head of the German air force is gone, as is its major propagandist. It'd cripple the upcoming war effort, perhaps to the point of delaying the war's beginning for a few months or maybe even a year. Which gives Britain, France, the Low Countries, and Poland a bit more time to rearm.

I'm assuming he also gets some kind of legal immunity...

If Goering is killed, the Luftwaffe may perform a whole lot better during the war.

No, not really. The operational concept of Luftwaffe was already set by 1939, you would need much ealier POD to influence Luftwaffe ability. And Goering rarely did meddle with operations of Luftwaffe. There could be some consequnces later in war, though. Perhaps Dunkirk might have gone the other way. Goerings boasting that he will stop embarkation of BEF played large role in Hitlers decision to stop operations. Also, 6th Army might be authorised to retreat, though this is too far in future to be acurately foreseen. Hitler was as much swayed in his decision to forbid 6th Army retreat by sheer stuborness as by (again) Goerings boasts that he could adequately supply army by Luftwaffe.

Depending on the attitude of Italy it could have major political consequences on the relationship within Axis. And German-US relations will sour precipitously. US will be in quandary between having one of his own citizens (a mobster, but still a citizen of US) being involved in act of political terrorism and facing extradition demands by a country not liked very much. How this would play out is interesting.
