WI: Brusilov's Offensive fails

The last great hurrah of the Russian Empire, the Brusilov Offensive crippled the Austro-Hungarians and forced Germany to send more resources to the Eastern Front. How could the offensive be blunted, and what would be the consequences to the Russian war effort?

EDIT: Ugh, wrong board. :noexpression:

Brusilov was given a free hand - and resources - because Russian commanders opposite the Germans, Ewert and Kuropatkin, were dragging their feet. - Let Ewert's and Kuropatkin's fronts attack, like the Stavka originally wanted them to do, then they'll get all the resources, and Brusilov's front will remain a side show.
However, an offensive against the Germans will lead to at least comparable losses for the Russians, so, in the long run, the outcome may be similar.

Conrad moved most of his best troops from the Eastern Front to attack Italy. If he cancels his Italian offensive, then the Austrians will have more and better troops in place to counter the Brusilov offensive.
