What effect would having the wealthy oil reserves of Brunei and the valuble port of Singapore have on the Malaysian economy?

Yes, they got rid of Singapore OTL because of its "Chineseness" but perhaps Brunei would balance that.

OTL Malaysia is economically and industrially succesful, with plans of achieving First world status by 2020. How much wealthier could Malaysia become with the oil and Singapore strait trade?

This will lead to even more racial tension- the Malay leaders were not willing to compromise with Lee Kuan Yew. The violence may escalate to levels like that of India's Partition resulting in a massive wave of turmoil followed by a more violent independence of Singapore with Chinese and Indians fleeing South and Lee Kuan Yew pleading with the British High Comissioner to allow British troops to be deployed to protect the refugees.

IOTL Malaysia is already held back by it's handicapping of any non-Malay economic initiatives. Even if Singapore somehow manages to stay in the Federation, the entire region will be worse off.

There were elements in the Bruneian population who would have rioted. Think Sheik Asahari and the Brunei People's Party.
