WI: Bruce Dickinson doesnt leave Iron Maiden in the 90`s?

I am, I should hope, an outstanding all-time incurable fan, but I really don't have an answer to the question! I find it a little strange to analyze the lives of people I look up to artistically and set them on a differant course. It feels a tad invasive (with politicians or people who've been dead for a decade, it's fine! :p), and in any case I always feel a little wierd when I realise that much of the music (and arts in general) which I love best or which are most iconic won't exist in another TL.

But by all means, others give us their takes!

I don't think that the butterflies with that would be too significant. Now what if Paul Dianno never left Iron Maiden in '81-82? Now that could possibly alter events significantly.

Its disturbing, isnt it? When you tamper with History to create a TL that you like over this one, you realise you may have erased most of the things you love about OTL.

A great example in my case is that when I started to make a TL with a WWI POD, I realised I butterflied away "Aces High"!!!!!:( I love that song.

Well, you could kiss "The X Factor" goodbye. And some other iconic 90`s Maiden songs. Paul DiAnno left Maiden cause he destroyed his voice. There was one concert where he couldnt stop caughing and Harry had to take over the singing (not too hard, I mean he does write them all).

Forgive me for this but I always understood that Dianno left because he felt Maiden was going in too "metal" of a direction.

There are two sides to this story:

A) Harris side: DiAnno was ruining his voice

B) DiAnno side: being in a band with Harris is like being subordinated to Hitler

Basically, Id trust what Harris says over DiAnno anyday.

We can most assuredly trust Harris! His words are wisdom!

*salutes from regimented Maiden fans*

:D

And this was going to be part of the alternate metal timeline I've been working on...

To address the POD by itself, it doesn't make a difference in the end. They are certainly one of the most successful metal bands of all time, but let's get back to the topic at hand. It doesn't have a huge impact on the metal scene in North America, which was forced underground thanks in part to the music industry banking on grunge. Iron Maiden would still do well, but it wouldn't make a large dent in making any major changes in North America.

North America? Who said anything about that???

I actually think it'll be bad for the band - there's a slide in the quality of the albums that begins with Fear of the Dark and goes on through X factor and Virtual XI... not saying those were all bad (and tbh a decline in quality for Maiden puts them still high above the majority of the herd), but there was a tendancy to... turgidity? through them. They seemed to get a Shakabutu for Brave New World though.

Plus, we wouldn't get Maiden as a six piece...

You will forgive me If I didnt understand what you said here (not English), but assuming you said their quality improved considerably, Im right there with you. BNW was mah first album, and I may be a bit bias, but IMO its the best one they made since Fear of The Dark.

And I believe Harris said "The X Factor" was named that way because they just got Blaze in the band. So maybe some songs wont even be there (such as Afraid to shoot strangers) without him.
