WI: Brethren of the Coast "allied" with the Barbary Corsairs

This was just a passing thought while reading up on some history of the Golden Age of Piracy in the Caribbean.

Would it be possible for the post-Spanish Succession period pirates to work an alliance with the Barbary Corsairs and/or other prirate groups (the Maltese pirates also come to mind)?

Like I said, this was just a passing thought, so I don't have much in the way of development yet. Could such an alliance end up with a more sustainable GAoP and some actually sustained Pirate Republics in Madagascar, the Bahamas, or Bermuda?

I think thats really too late. If you want a pirate group that has the ability to dominbate space in the colonies and considers itself separate from the world, you need to go early, ideally before the 1660s. By the 1700s, the pirates are mostly ex-privateers and organised crime, tied into a linguistically and culturally distinct national community on shore. Not that they'd say no to an alliance of convenience, but the structures are just too dissimilar and the goals don't work. The Barbary corsairs at the time were basically a government protection racket, the Caribbean pirates a gang of armed robbers with ties to the mafia.
