WI: Bremer Shoots, Kills Wallace in 68?

Simply put, what if Arthur Bremer shoots George Wallace four years earlier, on May 15, 1968 rather than 1972, and kills him? Looking beyond the fact that Bremer would still be a 17 year old senior junior? (idk i'm not good at math) in high school, let's say he manages to nonetheless acquire a gun like the one he used IOTL, make it to a Wallace campaign event, and fire a fatal shot?

Nixon still won with Wallace splitting the vote, so Nixon would win even harder.

But Wallace also took votes from Humphrey in the North. His campaign hurt both Nixon and Humphrey. A two way contest between Nixon and Humphrey would probably be closer than OTL (with Nixon doing better in the South and HHH doing better in the North), but Nixon would still have the edge due to the war, domestic chaos, and Democratic divisions.

This is assuming, though, that no other candidate attempts to fill the void left with Wallace's death. Curtis LeMay would've been in no real position to rally the pro-segregation forces, but is there anyone else who might've stepped in to mount a serious campaign? How would they fare in the general election? Better, worse, or about the same as Wallace?
