WI: Black nationalist arrested for MLK murder

What if a black nationalist, lets say either a black panther or a NOI member had been arrested and charged with MLK's murder instead of James Earl Ray?

Why the fuck would a black panther ever want to kill MLK?

I think the WI was if the authorities tried to pin the murder on a black nationalist, perhaps to discredit their movement, or just racist hijinks. Also, there were plenty in the Black Panther movement who saw MLK as a sell-out or a traitor, especially racial separatists.

From what I know of the two groups, the NOI are indeed a much more plausible choice. Even though there were strong ideological differences between the Panthers and King, I really don't see the Panthers hating him enough to want him dead.

Did the Black Panther Party, or even significant elements within, ever advocate racial separatism? That would seem to go against their professed allegiance to various forms of socialism.

The only socialist/marxist entity I know of that advocates racial purity is the government of the DPRK, and even they claim to be no longer Marxist per se.

Bye, Bye NoI

It is more plausible the NoI would kill Dr. King ( there is a plausible theory if was the NoI who shot Malcolm X) than the Black Panthers. (Unless you are talking about Ron Karenga's group and not the Huey Newton group).

However, if it were anywhere near proven it was the NoI, they might have a major PR problem, if they would even continue to exist.

I doubt the Black Panthers would do it.....it'd have to be the Nation of Islam.

Anyway, if the Nation of Islam has MLK killed, nearly every single African-American anywhere would immediately harshly condemn the plotters, and the good Doctor will be seen by much of the public at large(except for hardcore conservatives, who'd no doubt crow about "black on black" violence and such) as a tragic martyr of the struggle between the majority moderates and the minority radical extremists.

The FBI of the period was pretty crazy yeah.
