William Beardmore & Co., of Glasgow was, in WWI, a conglomerate which produced steel, armour plate, forgings, dreadnoughts, an aircraft carrier, naval guns, merchantships and oilers, trains, cars, taxis, motorcycles, airships, airplanes and engines. After WWI, his company was over-extended, like the Sopwith company, and underwent some harsh conditions before the depression, leading to final dissolution around 1936. Fore-sightful bean-counters might have saved the company by selling off some divisions, and he also might have bought into some profitable firms, namely Cosmos Engineering, home of Roy Fedden and the Jupiter engine, which OTL saved the Bristol Company from a similar fate in rough times. He could also have picked up the services of Herbert Smith for a song, after the demise of Sopwith's company. However, business isn't my business. Any ideas?
