Why? Biden's biggest strength is foreign policy, an angle which Clinton would need shoring up on, and he's from the northeast which balances out Clinton's southern-ness.
Is it because it's too close to the plagiarism scandal?
Biden was known for being a foreign policy specialist in
2008 when Obama selected him
, and after he'd been chair of the foreign relations committee in the Bush years -
not in 1992. In 1992, he was nationally known for being chair of the judiciary committee, and the judiciary committee which had presided over the Anita Hill hearings at that. That, in case it needs spelling out, is not a positive. Absolutely the last thing on earth someone like Bill Clinton needs is someone like Biden, who women's groups would be hostile towards.
And yes, the train wreck of 1987 is a big drag factor as well. There's not just the plagiarism issue, there's also Biden's near-death with his aneurism - and we know that Clinton was very acutely aware of health factors in his selection. He wanted the most presidential choice as VP, because he was cognisant that his dad died young. Biden does not fit any of Clinton's criteria.
And apart from all that there's the historical fact that he wasn't on Clinton's shortlist.
There's literally no good reason for Clinton to pick Biden - and absolutely no indication that he was interested in doing so.
