In 1926, a insane woman named Violet Gibson attempted to assassinate Benito Mussolini while the latter was walking among a crowd in the Piazza del Compidoglio in Rome after leaving an assembly of the International Congress of Surgeons.

Using a Modele 1892 reovlver disguised in a black shawl, she fired twice at Musolini, the first shot just missing his head and the gun misfirng on the second attempt. She was arrested on the spot after beign saved from a lynch mob by police. At the request of Mussolini, she was released and spent her last days at a mental asylum.

But what if Gibson successfully assassinated Mussolini? Who would succeed him as leader of Italy? Would Italy still invade Ethiopia or join the Axis in World War II?
