WI: Benedict Arnold killed in the Battle of Quebec

Assuming butterflies don't change things earlier, this would massively impact the Saratoga campaign.

Interestingly, one of the most unusual war memorials in the world is at the Saratoga battlefield, which I visited back in November. It's a large stone carving of a boot (symbolizing the severe leg wound Arnold suffered in the battle) and an inscription that reads: In memory of the most brilliant soldier of the Continental army, who was desperately wounded on this spot, winning for his countrymen the decisive battle of the American Revolution, and for himself the rank of Major General. Purposefully, the name Benedict Arnold is never specified and no depiction of his face is included.

Yeah, I'd rather see a WI of him dying right after Saratoga. Minimizes the butterflies.

I don't think the Saratoga campaign would change too much if it unfolded OTL. However no Arnold may mean the British take Ticonderoga in '76 as there would be no Valcour Island defense.

I think there is a tendency to unfairly deprive Gates of all credit over winning Saratoga. The idea to relieve Ft. Stanwix was already under way from Schyuler and Gates strategy of forcing Burgoyne to attack was strategically and tactically sound and he likely would have counterattacked at the appropriate time. Gates also was able to coordinate the arriving militia into surrounding Burgoyne and forcing surrender. Arnold's death may not have huge reprucussions outside of his reputation. Maybe less of the Canadian force returns to Albany and are lost on the retreat as outside of him ,Morgan, and Montgomery, there were no real leaders in that army.
