WI: Battle of Parcel Islansa ended differently?

So curious on what others would think would be the impact of this point of divergence: Battle of the Parcel Islands.

What if the PLAN was defeated in this battle? What would the divergent timeline look like? How would impac the PRC's claim on the SCS/WPC? What would that mean for the RoV? How would this impact other nations in the Southeast Asia region?

How could they have beaten them? The ROV was on its last legs, obviously North Vietnam could not doing anything, the USSR was not going to help the ROV, and by the US had decided to write off South Vietnam and was pursuing better relations with the PRC.

The only way I see this happening is in an ATL where the US remains committed to defending South Vietnam and does not pursue better relations with the Chinese (basically no Nixon to China). But that is in fact a massive project where this issue is only one small part. In fact in that universe the Chinese probably don't even attempt what they did in 1974.

Smaller forces have held out against larger forces. Say the PLAN corvettes are sunk, given that they had better weapons than the corvettes, thus not allowing for an uncontested amphibious landing.
