Suppose the Nazis had succeeded in destroying Britain's air defenses, at least as they pertain to the channel, in, say, August of 1940*. Hitler decides to go through with Operation Sea Lion.

(ducks from hurled object)

Now, before you tear me to pieces: yes, I realize the consensus on this board is that having this mission succeed is ASB, for a great variety of reasons; but I want to get into what comes before.

Specifically: To what extent could Operation Sea Lion plausibly succeed? And given this (almost certainly) failed invasion -- however unlikely, though within plausibility, its tactical and/or operational successes -- what would be the larger impact on the war?

Yes, yes, I know a great many here are sick of this topic, and if anyone knows a thread where the same take on this was done, I'll drop it easily enough.

*Oh, and please, let's not go on about the "how" in this thread -- I'd like this to stay focused on the after effects...
