WI: Balkanized America

Haven't given this too much thought, just a fun little thought experiment:

POD would be Britain never manages to defeat France in the French and Indian War, allowing New France to prosper.

British North America:
Has strong ties to the motherland, including a significant presence in the Imperial Parliament. Defeat against France in the 18th century and the presence of an external enemy, along with certain reforms, glued them closer to the motherland. In the early 19th century, they enjoyed considerable expansion east at the expense of the French and their Indian allies. Eventually, internal dissent over the issue of slavery fractured the colony, leading to the secession of its southern half. Industry and finance are its main strengths

United States of America:
Dominated by an aristocratic white planter class. Slavery of African-Americans is still going strong, and has expanded from agriculture into the industrial and even some parts of the service sector. Highly militarized and repressive.

Republic of New France:
The first part of the French colonial Empire in the Americas to break free, the Republic of New France has had its share of wars with its southern and western neighbors. For the last half a century though, peace has blossomed, and immigration continues to bolster its population.

Republic of Louisiana:
With the turbulence in Europe sending more and more people across the Atlantic, New Orleans became a major hub for immigrants, who then spread out throughout the vast French territory. In fact, it was immigration that brought to nation (then still a loosely-held French colony) its only major expansion, as the thinly populated Mexican Tejas was flooded with franchophone settlers, eventually sparking war and annexation of everything east of the Colorado. (They actually gained more than that, but lost it in a subsequent war against both Mexico and the slave-owning USA)

Republic of California:
Initially part of the Mexican Empire, the California Gold rush brought forth a wave of settlers, that eventually rebelled against their autocratic masters, forming one of the most multicultural societies on Earth, with Hispanics, Asians, French and Anglo peoples coming together.

Kingdom of New Spain:
Officially "The Kingdom of Spain", this nation formed when republican forces took control of the metropolis, forcing the King to flee to the last remaining colony loyal to him. Is widely derided as a British lapdog, who support it as a counter-weight the *USA

Republic of Alyeska:
The youngest nation in America, populated by a mix of Russians, native Americans and various settlers who came in as part of Alyeska's own massive Gold Rush.

Empire of Mexico:
After the French conquest of Spain and the subsequent establishment of a republic, Mexico declared independence, with the Viceroy proclaimed as its emperor. At first quite successful on account of their energetic and competent emperor, Mexican fortunes soon began to fade as industrialization and immigration changed the game completely.

Didn't that one end in status quo ante though ?

I meant taking the PoD back that far. You could end up with a more heavily populated New France that way, one that would be harder to for Britain to conquer outright or to overwhelm with pure numbers.

Of course, if the British don't take Quebec or Montreal in the Seven Years' War, then France could have held onto most of New France. But that doesn't take care of Prince Rupert's Land...

Let's just say Prince Rupert's Land gets conquered by New France sometime later, after the advent of large conscript armies
