WI: Babur defeated at the First Battle of Panipat (1526)

What if the progenitor of the Mughal dynasty, Babur, had been defeated by the forces of the Lodi Sultanate at the First Battle of Panipat in 1526?
What would be the consequences for India? For how long can the Lodis survive? And what about Rana Sanga of Mewar?

One sure result is that the Mughal Empire just is not born. How long can the Lodis survive and how the dynasty end up is all speculation. If the Lodis pull on fifteen more years they may have to face Sher Shah who dethroned Humayun and the Suris might replace the Lodis. The Humayun or Akbar do not come to the picture at all and the future is full of butterflies. What is the role that Rana Sanga of Mewar will play is also not known.

I'd expect Sher Shah and Rana Sanga to come to blows as the Lodis decline, since they're likely to have competing claims over the middle Ganges region.
However, that is assuming Sher Shah still rises to prominence in Bengal, because, from what i hear, his career only got a significant boost after Babur's initial successes.

Depends. If Babur survives he might have another go a few years later as he had already conquered Lahore the previous year, which would serve as a staging point for another incursion. If he dies, then, as Kishan said, the Lodis night soldier on for a number of years before the dynasty is toppled/disintegrates.

What effect does this have on the southern Indian states? Can Vijayanagara survive for longer as a result of this or will they still be crushed by the middle Indian sultanates?
