WI: australian aborigonie civilisation

what is there was a civilisation in australia before the europeans came, perhaps using the darling-murray as a center simmilar to the nile, what would australia be like today if a large city bulinging farming civilisation developed instead of the hunter-gathere society?

I can't see the aborigines developing a civilisation on their own.

A: Not enough of them
B: Very nomadic people with no "cradle"

It'd be very hard to get them starting a civilisation.

Um, surely they had a civilization in OTL....

I'm not the best for knowledge on the Aborigines but as far as I was aware they didn't even have huts, besides temporary "gunyah", which were only for a night or two. They lived as hunter-gatherers and wondered as nomads, never staying in one place.

I don't think they ever had any civilisation at all, but I'm not sure, you'd have to ask an expert in that area.

I'm not sure why exactly they never developed civilisation, but I always put it down to a small population in a large expanse of land with no rival powers or tribes.

Allow me to direct you to Lands of Red and Gold...

Let me second this recommendation. Lands of Red and Gold is exactly what you're looking for, and it's one of the best timelines on the board. Here's the wiki page.

LORAG has the aborigines with a 'foundation crop' of a sweet potato to add to their improved wetland settlement model which occurred in several/many suitable places.

http://www.abc.net.au/catalyst/stories/s805459.htm This place is near my brothers house. I've driven through it on a full moon in winter when the water shows up in the moonlight, and I got a very good idea if what they were doing with the mounds and weirs, fascinating.
