POD: August 15, 1587, following the death of Stephen Báthory.
Mostly ASB, inspired by this Jewish legend. What if the man in the story, Saul Wahl, had actually been elected king of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth? For argument's sake, assume that he ends/restricts the liberum veto, makes preemptory concessions to the Cossacks (maybe an earlier-than-OTL Treaty of Hadiach) and institutes other reforms necessary to keep the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth afloat long-term – how would this change the course of Jewish, European, and world history?
