IOTL, Hitler didn't want to make Napoleon's mistake by getting routed in a chaotic retreat and ordered his men to fight for every patch of ground. Arguably, this causes enormous casualties, but Army Group Centre remains intact. Suppose his generals ignore the 'no retreat' order and Army Group Centre gets smashed by Zhukov's counteroffensive of the winter of 1941-'42. What happens then? How much does this speed up the war and how will the USSR be post-war with a war that will likely be shorter?
