WI Armistead swings too hard

The Vulture

Banned
In 1836, while both were at West Point, Lewis Armistead got into an argument with classmate Jubal Early and famously smashed a plate over his head.

Suppose he hits Early a little harder than he intends to and ends up killing him. Armistead is then tried for murder and either imprisoned or hanged.

With these two gone well before the American Civil War, is there any appreciable effect on the war, the Confederate Army, or the Lost Cause (of which Early was a champion)?

Armistead is unlikely to be tried for murder, let alone convicted of it. His family had connections, which they used in OTL to get him in back in the military. Butterflies are going to start a lot earlier than the ACW, Armistead's father was commander during part of the Second Seminole War, Early fought in it in OTL. Early also served as a lawyer and a Virginia legislator before both he and Armistead served in the Mexican-American War.
