WI: Armand Călinescu not assassinated?

How would this effect Romania in WWII? Could it lead to Romania becoming an active member of the allies until there are conquered by Germany and Hungary?

That's one heckuva PoD. It would be pretty difficult for him to survive. After Zelea-Codreanu's execution, the Iron Guard second rank issued a... well, basically a fatwa upon Calinescu. He'd have to kill most of the Legionaries (including all the second rankers) in order to stay alive.

Anyway, there was a WI thread about Romania refusing to yield in 1940. It slipped to page 6 or 7, IIRC.

Perhaps the PoD needs to be in May 1939, with something that leads to a more successful decapitation of the Iron Guard and extending it to known sympathisers.

Yeah that's what it seems like. I guess I'm more asking for an Allied Romania

The simplest PoD is for King Carol II not be the 1920s version of Tiger Woods. He was a smart and personally brave (if rather arrogant) man. He was far smarter than the idiots in the Regency Council (including his own wife) who ruled the country in Michael's name (underage at the time) during the late 20s - early 30s.

I don't think so! Even he would obtained the decission to resist against germans, who from the allies would guarateed any help? I think king carol would fought, if allies would promissed help. AFAIK, the only help the allies promised was few sapper squads to blow up ploiesti rafineries:eek:
