WI Arab Sassanid wars end in Sassanid victory

as title says how can this happen?? So IMO Wi at the battle of Al Quadissiyah the Arab forces suffer a crushing defeat by Sassanid forces who manage to kill all the arab genrals including the caliph Umar. could the sassanids sieze the oppurtunity and reconquer Lost territory frm the rashiduns. How would this affect history and is It plausable. Otherwise what other POD can lead to Sassanid victory over the Rashidun Calphite??? Btw how does this event change world history??

You don't get the Persian conquest of Islam that followed the Islamic conquest of Persia, that's for sure. Assuming the Arabs still conquer Syria and Egypt, I imagine the workings of the Caliphate will much more closely resemble those of the Roman Empire of Justinian, rather than the Iranian Empire of Khosrau.

I wonder how this could even happen. Maybe a massive Byzantine victory at Yarmouk could buy the Sassanids enough time for Yazdegerd III to stabalize the empire enough to offer resistance long enough for a fitna to start up.

I love it whenever I encounter a fascinating POD of which I had never thought before! This is certainly one of those.

Zoroastrianism might continue to be a major factor in world religious history. There would also be no Islamic conquests in India. That butterflies are immense.

easy POD, have Vahan not be a moron and listen to Heraclius.

Heraclius told him not to attack until the sassanids had launched there attacks,

A two front war with massive armies.

The Arabs are screwed:eek:

The world is more religiously diverse, especially in Iranian territories. Hetreodox Muslims move east in groups when persecuted. That's provided the situation remains stable.

This is a scenario I have been pondering for a while. A POD could potentially be Axum's expanding further into Arabia after GDRT, maybe even preventing an Islam at all, and at least taking much pressure off the Sassanids if the Muslims did indeed arise. The Sassanids might have to deal with Axum instead, though this opens the door to many scenarios, probably not involving Islam (at least in any significant amount).

Or what if, two decades earlier, during the reign of Phokas, Sassanid Persia had invaded North Africa (Area around Carthage)? They could have killed Heraclius before he got to Constantinople and kept Sassanid power intact. Thus, they would have not taken a serious thrashing by Heraclius and could have fought off the Arabs.

That seems like a good POD as well; I see no reason to go one way or the other, but it does bring up the question of, after the Sassanids conquered eastern North Africa, what would they do then? What would India be like, for example?

It would be interesting to see what would develop in East Africa instead of the Swahili Trading states, given that the Persians lacked slavery, a crucial trade item in OTL (or would Axum expand southward there)?
