Octavian was serving with the two consular armies under hertius and pansa when they were fighting Antony, an enemy of the state. Antony's for Ed were being beaten left and right, and Decimus Brutus was also bearing down on him. Hertius and pansa however soon died and Octavian took control if the legions and joined Antony, with Brutus's forces soon surrendering when they realized their situation was hopeless.
So what if hertius and pansa had not died and they had kept control if the army? Antony was surely finished. With Antony done for, Decimus Brutus is saved. Octavian, despite being Caesars heir had little credibility still so would likely not become a major player. So it seems to me, that for the moment at least, the liberators coup would be complete and the republic would be safe.
