WI: Anne Frank Lives to Old Age

Using whatever means you must to concoct a scenario where at the very least Ms. Frank herself survives the war, what butterflies do you see occuring? Would her testimony affect perceptions of the war and the Holocaust? Would she enter politics? If so, which side of the Cold War would she support (if either)?

If she survived she would be just one normal Jewish girl who survive the war, most likely she and here family move to Israel where she raise a own family, end of story.

Like other had already stated, she probably would be unfamilliar outside of her immediate family members and them who knew her personally. She might live in Netherlands or move to United Kingdom or United States. Even if she publishes book about her experiences over WW2 that book would probably be pretty unknown outside of Netherlands. At least not so famous as her OTL diaries.

I suppose it's possible that the diaries come out still after her death -- but as part of the documents of a deceased famed writer. Perhaps she ends up with a work about her experience, something akin to Elie Wiesel's Night.

Why do we assume because she wrote in a dairy, which i think many young girls doe she would become a famous witter, politician ore actress.

There are accounts of people surviving Nazi Germany that ended up getting published and don’ Necessarily make the author famous. I read one in high school - Jewish woman survives the Holocaust and meets (and marries) an American soldier, and then she moves to America. Anne Frank May have been a bit young for that, but it’s possible she befriends a soldier and then studies in America, eventually publishing her diary and enjoying a short stay on the N.Y. Times Bestseller List.

Because in said diary she wrote often of her desire to become a writer, either in journalism or in novels, so it's worth projecting her teenage career goals forward.

But that does not mean she would become a famous person, i wrote in my diary (yes i had one) that i wanted to become a astronaut, instead i am a baker.

She did (insofar as one can tell in translation) have a lucid compelling written style. If she wrote that well as a young teenager then it is probably on the cards that she will indeed become a writer or journalist. Maybe not a famous or internationally known writer or journalist ITTL but she is already displaying the skills to fulfill her ambition. So we can regard it as an achievable ambition rather than a childhood dream. Granted, it may never happen if she has five kids instead or decides to go into active politics. But she's smart, observant and can put her thoughts down clearly on paper so why shouldn't she become a writer?
To become an astronaut you need very high level physical fitness, good mathematical skills and very fast response times. And to live in a country with a manned space programme and to become part of a tiny elite who will ever go up in the rocket or spaceplane. Very high bars even if you are a bright kid. To become a writer you need access to a pen and paper/typewriter (or a computer these days) and good literacy skills. Published writer a bit harder but I would say achievable from her early work.

Wonder how many jews that hide and were not taken to camps wrote diaries and never became anything involved in writing after the war

I have said it before, but I believe that if she survives whe would become a relatively well known writer in the Netherlands (and possibly Flanders), but unlikely outside it. Anne Frank always wanted to be a writer and she was a very good writer (or else her teenage diary would not have been read as much). If she survives the war, she would want to persue a career as writer, probably in the Netherlands, since that is the language she has mastered (that is why I believe she will remain in the Netherlands and not move to Israel or the USA). Since she is a Dutch writer, she will probably not be read outside of the Netherlands (I doubt anyone here who isn't Dutch or Flmish would be able to name another Dutch writer).

Mind you, this is probably the most relevant she can become. It is probably more likely she'll end up as an unknown housewife. Which is not a bad life for a girl in the 40's, but not particularly interesting for this site.

I would certainly like to think that if she
survived she would have become one of
Holland's leading writers- & her diaries do
show, I think, genuine literary ability.

Many have dreams which they never accomplish. And even if Frank becomes author she probably would be unknown outside of Dutch speaking areas. Or how many internationally famous Dutch language author you can name without googling? And even if Frank releases her diary, it would be just one of released book from Holocaust survivor. Many other too have too wrote books about these years but they are pretty unknown. And I can't believe that they all were worse authors than Frank.
